A common tradition in Indian households is to end meals with a sweet (desserts). However, a simple change in this tradition might help you shed those extra kilos, if done on a daily basis. All you need to do is eat a bar of dark chocolate after meals to lose weight (and satiate your craving as well).
Dr Will Clower, a Neuroscientist, in his book ‘Eat Chocolate Lose Weight’ has revealed that eating chocolate can actually help you eat less each day, thereby aiding in weight loss. Here’s what you need to know about this humble sweet to include it in your weight loss regime.
How dark chocolate aids in weight loss?
A single bar of dark chocolate contains around 70 percent of cocoa, a flavonoid that plays a key role in weight loss. A rich dark chocolate consumed at the end of your meal stabilizes the blood sugar levels in your body. This causes your blood sugar levels to be maintained for a long time (say throughout the afternoon, if eaten after lunch). In this way, eating a little bit of dark chocolate helps reduce the craving for other unhealthy foods, making it easier to stick to your diet.
According to a study published in the Journal Nutrition, higher levels of chocolate consumption lead to lower levels of total and central fat estimated through body mass index and body fat percentage.
How much is too much?
Although chocolates aid in weight loss when consumed after meals, this doesn’t mean that diet followers can gorge on bricks of it each day and yet expect results. Eating a piece of chocolate each day or a whole chocolate bar one-two times a week aids in weight loss. Apart from this, other tricks that you need to employ to lose weight with chocolates are not consuming portions larger than the end joint of your thumb, savoring instead of chewing chocolate and eating the sweet daily.
Apart from aiding in weight loss, dark chocolate is filled with numerous health benefits. So the next time you finish your meal, eat dark chocolate instead of desserts and see the difference!
